The Centre is likely to hold spectrum auctions for the fourth generation
(4G) mobile services by the end of this year. The exact date for the
auction would be decided later.
Attending the India Day function organised by Union Telecom Ministry at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Minister Kapil Sibal said that India is going to auction for 4G spectrum by the end of 2012.
Sibal said that India has enough spectrums to share with everybody. The government will have enough radio waves after the cancellation of 122 2G licences by the Supreme Court in the massive multi-crore 2G spectrum allocation case.
However, all the spectrums would not be put for auction. The final decision will be taken on the recommendations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Sibal said that the government will hold 2G spectrum auction very soon and the procedure for holding spectrum auctions should be transparent.
